Hello Jonathan,
Thanks for taking the time to comment, my friend.
The record states clearly what was destroyed. They lost Paradise, for one. Likewise, they lost so much of what made Eden to be Paradise in the first place: a pure relationship with God, complete harmony between each other, full openness without shame, every need provided for without sweat or fear, complete peace.
All of that was destroyed.
But most importantly, spiritual life was lost. The day they ate, they died spiritually. This is the death Christ came to resolve, the life that we needed else we spend eternity apart from God.
Ephesians 2 makes it clear:
Ephesians 2:1–5
By Grace Through Faith
[1] And you were dead in the trespasses and sins [2] in which you once walked, following the course of this world, […] But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, [5] even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — (ESV)
Thanks for your time!
