Indeed. Jesus and God both forgive, because Jesus is God. Jesus and God both die on the Cross, because Jesus is God.

The Jewish authorities at the time may have been the ones to arrest Jesus, but He was clear with His disciples long beforehand that He had to be executed in Jerusalem by crucifixion.

Jesus stated repeatedly that He was choosing to lay His life down. It wasn’t being taken from Him.

They didn’t arrest Jesus for breaking the Sabbath, although they tried to accuse Him of such. He was handed over to death for claiming to be God. That’s why the priest tore his robes. He perceived Jesus as saying blasphemy — a man claiming to be God.
