Jesus certainly had the sins of the world laid upon Him, but that's not what "heart of the earth" refers to.

The sins of the world were only laid on Jesus as long as He was alive on the Cross. That's why Jesus declared "It is finished" just before dying. Paying for the sins of the world was finished before Jesus gave His last breath.

Yet Jesus was in the "heart of the earth" for three days -- much longer than He was on the Cross.

Given the differences in time, these can't be the same thing.

But Jesus was buried for three days, reckoning inclusively.
