Hello Warren,
Thanks for taking the time to write this article.
My friend, I’m a white, male Christian living in a very “Christianized” area of America.
Let me tell you about the faith we really believe.
Jesus loves you, so I do, too. I dearly love my sisters and brothers of color. I am so thrilled to live in a diverse nation, and to raise my kids in a diverse nation!
God creates every human being in His image. That means every human being is worthy of respect, honor, and love, without exception.
Jesus never allows us to hate. He doesn’t even let us hate our enemies! Rather Jesus commands love, even to those adamantly opposed to us:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” — Matthew 5:43–44, ESV
Jesus never allows supremacy, whether white supremacy or nationalist supremacy or any other kind. Jesus commands the opposite:
But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” — Matthew 20:25–28
A great Christian is not one who seizes power and lords it over others, but rather one who loves and serves everyone around them.
I’ve never met the people who entered the Capitol. I don’t know how deep their faith went or what they believed.
But I do know this: there are billions of Christians in the world today — billions. Even if 99% of us are sane and only 1% are crazy, that’s still tens of millions of people.
Please don’t judge us by those who ignore the teaching of Jesus. Judge us by those who obey Him.
We love you. Jesus does, too.
