Do Messianic Prophecies Declare Actions Jesus Didn’t Fulfill?

Hang around the Internet long enough and you’ll hear every sort of accusation against Jesus. One of the most prominent targets Jesus’ status as Messiah.

According to many of the Old Testament prophecies, Messiah is supposed to usher in a never-ending Kingdom for Israel. Messiah is supposed to triumph over every foe and reign supreme.

So if Jesus is Messiah, where is the Kingdom?

It’s a fair question. God provided the Messianic prophecies to reveal the true Messiah and vanquish all imposters. If Jesus didn’t fulfill everything they say, what are we to think?

The answer is both complex and simple: Jesus didn’t fail as Messiah. He accomplished everything the Law and the Prophets said Messiah would do — in His first advent.

Ancient expectations

Up until the prophet Daniel wrote, everyone expected Messiah to come once, and usher in the Kingdom of God immediately. Messiah’s appearance would be Israel’s final deliverance.

But God revealed to Daniel that Messiah would come not once, but twice. On Messiah’s first appearance, He would be cut off for His people…
